Abstract
Infrared (IR) and/or Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) carbon-13 data a re presented for 3-x and 4-x substituted anilines. Correlations are pr esented for the deltaC-13-1 chemical shift vs. Hammett sigma(p) and si gma(m) values, nu(asym.) vs. deltaC-13-1, nu(asym.) NH, vs. deltaC-13- 1, deltaC-13-1 vs. nu(asym.)NH2, deltaC-13-1 vs. the absorbance ratio A(nu(asym.)NH2/A(nu(sym.)NH2), and deltaC-13-1 vs. Taft sigma(R)-degre es. The IR data for these compounds are recorded in the vapor phase, a nd in hexane, carbon tetrachloride, and chloroform solutions. The NMR chemical shift data for these compounds in solution with chloroform we re obtained with the use of tetramethylsilane as the deltaC-13 resonan ce reference frequency.
