Abstract
The emission frequency of 1.55 mum DFB lasers has been locked to absor ption lines of hydrogen iodide for the first time. Absorption lines of this gas located at wavelengths ranging from 1.534 to 1.594 mum have been identified. They are proposed as new absolute wavelength referenc es for EDFA based multichannel optical networks.
