Skeletal remnants originating from eagle owl pellets were collected in
Southern Kirghizia in June, 1988 and May, 1990. 23 pellet samples fro
m 13 localities were collected altogether, and 4 689 food items, belon
ging to 31 mammalian taxa, 69 taxa of birds, and several species of lo
wer vertebrates and invertebrates, were determined. Particular foragin
g strategy types, distinctly differentiated altitudinally, were derive
d on the basis of comparison of the samples studied. The results of ow
l food analyses were compared to the quantitative data on the small ma
mmal fauna obtained by snap-trapping.
