The first documented finding of the European brook lamprey, Lampetra p
laneri (Bloch, 1784), is described from the main channel of the Morava
River (tributary of the Danube, basin of the Black Sea). The sole spe
cimen was caught on 2 July, 1992, near Bludov. Some other findings of
this species from the basin of the Black Sea are also discussed. The n
ecessity of a more careful approach was emphasized for the evaluation
and revision of historical faunistical data from the upper part of the
Danube watershed, mainly those pertaining to lampreys and denoted ori
ginally as L. planeri or its synonyms. Besides the Ukrainian brook lam
prey, Eudontomyzon mariae (Berg, 193 1), undoubtedly, also Lampetra pl
aneri could occur there.
