Abstract
Aliphatic thiols of biopharmaceutical (cysteine,N-acetylcysteine, homo cysteine,captopril,glutathione,mercaptop ropionylglycine) and cosmetic (thioglycolic acid, monothioglycerol,ammonium thiolactate) interest r eact under mild reaction conditions (10 min at room temperature) with methyl 4-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl)-4-oxo-2-butenoate to give fluoresc ent adducts which can be separated on TLC silica gel plates. The fluor escent spots are visualized on irradiation at 254 and 366 nm.
