Abstract
Field effects on the adsorption characteristics of H, H-2 and H-3 on m etals are calculated using density functional theory for a jellium met al and for small metal clusters. New dissociation channels are explore d and a mechanism for the formation of a field-stabilized linear H-3 s pecies is proposed.
