This study is concerned with the effect of various amounts of Sn speci
es in modifying the surface acidic and basic properties of alumina, im
portant in catalytic activity. The decomposition of isopropanol and co
nversion of cumene were chosen as a measure of the changes to the acid
ic/basic catalytic sites, and the adsorption of pyridine (measured by
IR spectroscopy) to separate out the Bronsted and Lewis acid activity.
