The molecular structure of the copper complex with title ligand has be
en determined by X-ray diffraction. It shows a slightly distorted tetr
agonal bipyramidal coordination of the copper ion. The macrocycle is c
oordinated in a planar configuration and two carboxylic groups are in
a trans arrangement. The unusually high activation energy (ca 200 kJ m
ol-1) was measured for second-order complex formation reactions in aqu
eous solution.
