Abstract
Isotope exchange of deuterium and Cl-36 between N-methylimidazolium ch loride and gaseous hydrogen chloride has been studied over the tempera ture range of 249-322 K. A mechanism of exchange for both atoms is pro posed and the equilibrium isotope effect of deuterium accompanying thi s reaction is discussed.
