Abstract
Mastik(TM) (Lotek, Inc., Pomfret, Conn.), formerly Mastassay(R) (Pitma n-Moore, Inc., Mundelein, III.), is a rapid quantitative antibiotic su sceptibility test for mastitis caused by lactose-fermenting organisms. This test is compared to the disc antibiotic susceptibility test and the broth microdilution minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) test. T he protocol for conducting the Mastik test is presented, and the use o f the test in clinical, chronic, and subclinical mastitis cases is dis cussed.
