Simple spectrophotometric methods are described for the determination
of diclofenac sodium in pharmaceutical preparations. The methods are b
ased on the oxidation of the drug using reagents viz. ceric ammonium s
ulphate, dibromodimethylhydantoin, N-bromosuccinimide, and potassium b
romate to yield coloured products with maximum absorbance at 450, 385,
385 and 495 nm and linear calibration graphs in the range of 2 - 16,
40 - 400, 50 - 500 and 50 - 600 mug.ml-1 respectively. The methods are
statistically validated and found to be accurate, sensitive and repro
ducible.
