Pg. Rothberg et al., USE OF DNA POLYMORPHISMS TO MONITOR ENGRAFTMENT AFTER ALLOGENEIC BONE-MARROW TRANSPLANTATION, Clinics in laboratory medicine, 17(1), 1997, pp. 109
DNA polymorphism provide a sensitive way to evaluate the origin of nuc
leated blood cells after allogeneic bone marrow transplant. The polymo
rphisms that are caused by a variable number of tandem repeats are the
most useful for this purpose because of a high level of heterozygosit
y. Detection of host cells after transplant is sometimes transient, bu
t may also indicate a stable mixed chimerism or an impending relapse.
