Jm. Prignet et al., CLINICAL-FEATURES OF NONINTESTINAL NON-TYPHOIDAL SALMONELLOSIS - A REVIEW OF 42 CASES AND OF THE LITERATURE, La Semaine des hopitaux de Paris, 69(16), 1993, pp. 465-474
The 42 cases of non-intestinal non-typhoidal salmonellosis seen in a s
ingle institution from 1972 through 1991 were reviewed. These cases re
presented 4.87 % of the 862 non-typhoidal salmonellas recovered during
the same period. Seventeen patients had bacteremia, 68 % had an under
lying condition, which was a malignancy in one third of cases. In this
patient subgroup, a number of serotypes were particularly common and
mortality rate was 41 %. The underlying disease has a major bearing on
prognosis and should be looked for routinely.
