The structural and mechanical properties of alumina modified with La a
nd Ce ions were studied at different temperatures (873-1573 K) and con
tents of additives. The maximum stabilization effect on the specific s
urface area (S-sp) was observed at 1173-1473 K with the addition of 5
wt % La2O3. The stabilization of the porous structure of modified samp
les takes place at T > 1173 K. The mechanical strength of granules inc
orporating lanthanum and cerium ions increased with temperature. The r
esults obtained allow one to determine the relationships between previ
ous data on the influence of lanthanum and cerium ions on the polymorp
hous transformations in alumina dependent on the conditions of thermal
treatment, the structure, and mechanical properties of modified alumi
na.
