Rs. Sundrani et al., CORRECTION TABLES FOR CANADIAN STANDARD FREENESS OF CHEMICAL PULPS ATNONSTANDARD TEMPERATURE AND CONSISTENCY, Tappi journal, 76(5), 1993, pp. 147-152
Correction tables are used to adjust the freeness of groundwood pulps
tested at nonstandard temperature and consistency. There is no paralle
l set of correction tables for chemical pulps. The correction tables f
or chemical pulps presented in this report show that the correction va
lues for chemical pulp are significantly higher than those for groundw
ood pulp. The report also identifies two potential deficiencies in cur
rent test methods for pulp freeness: (a) the lack of a temperature spe
cification for the freeness tester and (b) failure to distinguish betw
een results obtained on old- or new-style testers. Results presented h
ere show that tester temperature affects freeness measurements. Other
research has shown that old- and new-style testers provide significant
ly different results.
