Abstract
The exchange stiffness constant D of unsupported fcc (100), (110) and (111) nickel monolayers are calculated. It is shown that D is highly a nisotropic for the (110) orientation. The relation between the strengt h of the magnetic coupling in the ground-state and the electronic stru cture of the monolayers is pointed out.
