Abstract
A multi-technique study of the magnetisation profile in a Pd/Co/Pd/Au sandwich structure is presented. Layer thicknesses were determined by chemical analysis, X-ray reflection and Polarised Neutron Specular Ref lection (PNSR). All methods give the same structure within experimenta l error. The saturation magnetisation, as measured by magnetometry was observed to be around 10% higher than expected from the Co thickness. The PNSR measurements indicate that the additional moment is due eith er to an induced magnetic moment of the Pd of 0.4 mu(B) in a 5 angstro m thick layer at each CO/Pd interface or an enhanced magnetic moment p er Co atom of 1.84 mu(B).
