Lv. Melo et al., OSCILLATORY EXCHANGE AND GIANT MAGNETORESISTANCE IN CO-CU SUPERLATTICES DEPOSITED ON GLASS SUBSTRATES, Journal of magnetism and magnetic materials, 121(1-3), 1993, pp. 395-398
We report a study Of (Co11angstromCutCu)xn superlattices sputtered ont
o glass substrates with an intervening 50 angstrom Fe buffer layer. Os
cillatory exchange coupling and enhanced magnetoresistance were observ
ed. The MR reaches 45% at room temperature for n = 30, and for t(Cu) =
10.4 angstrom. From the saturation field we obtain J(AF) = - 0.18 erg
/cm2. A single Co11angstrom/Cu10angstrom/Co11angstrom struture shows a
MR of 8% at room temperature with H(s) = 800 Oe. The MR results were
analyzed by solving the Boltzmann equation for the multilayer structur
e assuming both interface and bulk spin-dependent scattering. Perfect
antiferromagnetic coupling with zero remanence was found for t(Cu) = 1
1 angstrom while a square hysteresis loop is observed for t(Cu) = 22 a
ngstrom.
