DOES GONADOTROPIN-RELEASING-HORMONE (GNRH) IMPROVE FERTILITY IN CATTLE

In this article a review is given of the results obtained with gonadot rophin releasing hormone (GnRH) in the treatment of repeat breeder cow s, cows used for embryo transfer and of cows in the early post partum period. It is concluded that the results of GnRh administration to rep eat breeders is very variable. h is quite sure that the positive effec t of GnRH, if any is so low that from an economic point of view, treat ment can not be advised The usefullness of administration of GnRH to e mbryotransfer cows is very doubtfull. There are as many publications w ith positive as with negative results. The administration of GnRH in t he early post partum period can not be recommended. With this 'therapy ' conflicting results have been obtained and occasionally negative sid e effects have emerged.
