An effective Hamiltonian for the localized spins in the one-dimensiona
l Kondo lattice model is derived via a unitary transformation involvin
g a bosonization of delocalized conduction electrons. The effective Ha
miltonian is shown to reproduce all the features of the model as ident
ified in various numerical simulations, and provides much new informat
ion on the ferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase transition and the para
magnetic phase.
