Abstract
This paper analyzes and optimizes a new design four-fin radiating arra y in which the horizontal fins have a rectangular profile and the vert ical fins can have either a rectangular or triangular profile. The opt imum dimensions of the fins are obtained and the results are presented in an extremely simple algebraic form which is very convenient for us e by thermal designers. Comparisons are made between the conventional two-fin array and the proposed optimum design of the four-fin array. I t is found that the latter saves about 30% in material for a typical e missivity of the radiative fins.
