An experimental procedure for determining the microstructural paramete
rs of random spatial surface fractals is proposed. The procedure is ba
sed on chord length distribution measurements of planar sections of th
e investigated material at different linear resolutions, and compariso
n of the experimental results with the corresponding parameters of a w
ell-defined structure model. The variability of the model allows micro
structures with arbitrary volume fraction and fractal dimension to be
considered. Furthermore, both discrete and continuous scaling behaviou
r have been studied.
