Larvae of three species of Bathylagus from the Benguela Current off Na
mibia are described for the first time. These larvae are not conspecif
ic with any species known from the waters of the above region and can
only be linked to species from waters adjacent to the Benguela system.
Morphological, morphometric, and pigmentation characteristics allow o
ne form to be identified as Bathylagus gracilis. A second larval type
is tentatively identified as Bathylagus tenuis. A third form is descri
bed but cannot be linked to a known species. Information on horizontal
and vertical distribution accompanies the descriptions.
