Previous work suggested that 5 mm Mo cubes, formed from a supersaturat
ed vapor, self-organize in the vapor into larger cubes which are 3 x 3
x 3 arrangements of the smaller cubes. Here new experimental results
are described that provide an understanding of the narrow size distrib
ution necessary for self-arrangement and the observed bcc structure of
the particles. An explanation of the cubic shape of the particles and
a calculation for the energy decrease due to self-arrangement are als
o presented.
