SEMIPREPARATIVE LIQUID-CHROMATOGRAPHIC SEPARATION OF ALL 4 STEREOISOMERS OF ALPHA-BISABOLOL ON TRIBENZOYLCELLULOSE

A semi-preparative low-pressure liquid-chromatographic procedure using tribenzoylcellulose has been developed for the separation and isolati on of the four alpha-bisabolol stereoisomers. Stereochemical assignmen ts were made by HPLC-polarimeter coupling and by using the authentical isomers. This method can be applied to the quality control of chamomi le preparations, as it allows the detection of adulterations resulting from admixtures of synthetic alpha-bisabolol. In addition, the isolat ion of all four alpha-bisabolol stereoisomers from commercially availa ble synthetic alpha-bisabolol has been made possible.
