New polymethine dyes, 4-methyl-6-tert-butylthioflavilium derivatives,
as a basis for optical recording media have been synthesized and their
electronic absorption spectra in solutions and in PMMA polymer film h
ave been studied. Increased concentration of the dye in PMMA matrix ha
s been shown to lead after drying up of the film to dye aggregation. T
he aggregates of non-symmetric dyes show the hypsochromic shift as com
pared to the acetonitrile solution of the dyes (DELTAlambda(max) appro
ximately 110 nm). The symmetric dye aggregation leads to the batochrom
ic shift in the spectrum (DELTAlambda(max) approximately 175 nm). The
relative photostability of these dye films has been determinated on ir
radiation with the xenone-lamp (500 000 lx).
