A. Svensson et al., MOLECULAR FRAGMENTATION PATTERNS OF CARBON-DIOXIDE AT VERY HIGH INTERNAL ENERGIES, Organic mass spectrometry, 28(4), 1993, pp. 340-343
Ion-ion coincidence measurements following K-shell absorption in the c
arbon dioxide molecule were performed by applying time-of-flight mass
spectrometry in conjunction with monochromatic synchrotron radiation a
nd electron impact. Identification of particularly sensitive electroni
c transitions and the consecutive molecular fragmentation in real time
was performed. Analysis of coincidence recordings from decomposition
of carbon dioxide reveals one distinct pathway in which three cations
are formed following excitation of oxygen Is electrons.
