Mo. Cortezrocha et al., PLANT POWDERS AS STORED GRAIN PROTECTANTS AGAINST ZABROTES-SUBFASCIATUS (BOHEMAN) (COLEOPTERA, BRUCHIDAE), The Southwestern entomologist, 18(1), 1993, pp. 73-75
Two laboratory trials were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of powde
rs of ten plant species common in Sonora, Mexico, against the bean wee
vil, Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman), in stored pinto beans (Phaseolus
vulgaris). The parameters measured were insect repellency, numbers of
eggs oviposited. and numbers of F1 progeny. Results showed that none
of the plants caused insect mortality, reduced numbers of eggs oviposi
ted, nor affected numbers of F1 emerging adults. Two species, Argemone
mexicana and Larrea tridentata, were significantly less attractive to
Z. subfasciatus when added to pinto beans.
