Abstract
A questionnaire concerned with television viewing habits was completed by 5432 pupils between the ages of 11 and 15 years in Dundee. The dat a suggest that an adequate description of television use among this ag e group needs to distinguish between both overall viewing time and pro gramme preferences, and between four main types of programmes, namely soap, sport, light entertainment and current awareness. Age, sex, soci al class and religion all emerge as significant predictors of overall viewing time and of programme preferences.
