A resurgence of interest in the area of personality disorder has been
seen in the past 20 years. Researchers have continued along the biolog
ical line of investigation working from diverse theoretical standpoint
s and using increasingly sophisticated approaches. In this review thes
e aspects are set against the background of current debate in the fiel
d and placed in their historical context.
