Abstract
The oxidation of alkanes and benzene by VO(O2)L.2H2O (L = 2-picolinate ) in acetonitrile is accelerated upon irradiation with visible and, es pecially, UV light. Cyclohexyl hydroperoxide, cyclohexanol, and cycloh exanone in approximately 2:1:1 ratio are formed from cyclohexane both in the dark and photochemical reactions. Benzene is oxidized to phenol .
