Abstract
The magnitudes of the Casimir energies for electrons and electromagnet ic fields resulting from the confinement of the corresponding particle s in disordered materials are discussed. We estimate that the vacuum e nergy of the confined light is of the order of eV, while for electrons it is negligibly small.
