K. Chmil et U. Scherf, POLY(ARYLENE)S CONTAINING STRUCTURAL UNITS DERIVED FROM THE 1,2-DIKETO BUILDING BLOCK, Die Makromolekulare Chemie, 194(5), 1993, pp. 1377-1386
1,2-Diketones may serve as starting materials for various carbo- or he
terocyclic organic compounds. Two different synthetic routes towards p
oly(arylene)s containing structural units derived from the 1,2-diketo
building block are presented. The first route involves the generation
of polymeric 1,2-diketones via aryl-aryl coupling, followed by polymer
-analogous derivatisation. The second synthetic sequence includes form
ation of the 1,2-diketo derivatives on the stage of monomeric compound
s and subsequent polycondensation of these monomers. In this manner, a
romatic polymers possessing the quinoxaline, 1,2,4-triazine and tetrap
henylcyclopentadienone subunits are available. The polymeric 1,2,4-tri
azines are particularly attractive because they offer the possibility
of a thermal conversion into polymers containing the diphenylacetylene
building block.
