Esophageal motility was studied in 31 patients with mild to moderate e
sophagitis and in 48 patients without esophagitis to determine the eff
ect of esophageal inflammation on lower esophageal sphincter pressure,
and the amplitude, duration, and velocity of esophageal contractions.
There were no significant differences in any of these parameters asso
ciated with esophageal inflammation. We conclude that mild to moderate
esophagitis does not cause serious esophageal dysfunction in children
.
