This article examines the progress of women in political science. We f
ind that while a record number of women are obtaining degrees, includi
ng Ph.D.s, in the field, the percentage of women faculty lags consider
ably behind that of many other disciplines. Another concern is the lar
ge concentration of women in part-time and non-tenure track positions.
We argue that before women can obtain full equality with men in the p
rofession, these and a number of additional barriers will need to be o
vercome.
