ANOMALOUS EFFECTS OF SUNGLINT ON THE AVHRR IN THE NOAA-12 SATELLITE

An effect has been observed in the channel 4 output of the NOAA-12 sat ellite which has not been observed from previous satellites in the NOA A series. Essentially, when sunglint is being observed by channels 1-3 , and especially when channel 3 is saturated, the output of channel 4 becomes paralysed, It is believed that this problem has existed throug hout the lifetime of this satellite, since the effect was also observe d shortly after launch during July 1991.
