Jg. Hykawy et al., PRECISE DETERMINATION OF THE MASS DIFFERENCE GE-76 SE-76 AND A DERIVED UPPER LIMIT ON THE MAJORANA MASS OF THE ELECTRON NEUTRINO, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 329(3), 1993, pp. 423-432
Recent improvements to both the instrumentation and data analysis tech
niques associated with the Manitoba II high resolution mass spectromet
er have led to greater precision and accuracy. The mass difference bet
ween Ge-76 and Se-76 has been redetermined to be 2038.58 (31) keV. Whe
n the new Ge-76 double-beta decay Q-value is used to examine recent sp
ectra reported by groups searching for the characteristic sharp peak e
xpected for neutrinoless double-beta decay, no evidence for the occurr
ence of such a decay is found. New upper limits can be derived for the
electron neutrino mass. Reanalysis of earlier data is also presented,
leading to a value for the mass difference Se-74 - Ge-74 of 1209.53 (
48) keV.
