Abstract
Recently measured low pressure rate constants of the unimolecular diss ociation of CH4 in the bath gas Ar are evaluated in terms of the theor y of unimolecular reactions. The data analysis allows to conclude on t he temperature dependence of the average energy [DELTA E] transferred per collision. Over the temperature range 1000 - 1500 K a value of [DE LTA E] almost-equal-to (50 +/- 20) cm-1 was obtained which practically does not depend on the temperature ([DELTA E] is-proportional-to T0 /- 0.3). This result is compared with other information on [DELTA E].
