Abstract
The effect of aspirin on heart mitochondrial enzymes in experimental m yocardial infarction induced by isoproterenol was studied in rats. Iso proterenol (20 mg/100 g, sc) was administered twice at a 24 h interval . Aspirin (0.45 mg/100g) was administered orally on alternate days for 3 months. TCA cycle enzymes, NADH dehydrogenase, cytochrome c oxidase , and Na+K+ dependent ATPase were decreased in isoproterenol treated r ats. A significant decrease in protease activity was observed with a c oncomitant increase in the mitochondrial protein level. The mitochondr ial lipid peroxide level was increased; thiol content was decreased. A spirin treatment maintained mitochondrial enzyme activities and thiol content.
