N. Meunier et al., CYCLE-19 FACULA DYNAMICS .2. MERIDIONAL CIRCULATION, RMS VELOCITY, AND REYNOLDS STRESSES, Astronomy and astrophysics, 319(2), 1997, pp. 683-693
We investigated the meridional circulation of photospheric faculae thr
oughout cycle 19. Together with the rotation observed in a companion p
aper (Meunier et al. 1996), we were able to address the problem of the
existence of the observed differential rotation. The meridional circu
lation is characterized by a strong north-south asymmetry. The distrib
ution of meridional circulation around the mean value confirms the exi
stence of two populations detected in Meunier et al. (1996). An invest
igation of the rms velocities yields information on the variation of t
he anisotropy between the two horizontal motions and the latitudinal d
ependence of the small-scale kinetic energy. Lastly, a very small facu
la covariance has been measured, and its variation during the cycle ha
s been established.
