Abstract
Grasses traditionally assigned to Aristida stricta Michx. include two morphologically and geographically separate species. The name Aristida stricta Michx. corresponds to a taxon confined to North Carolina and the northern tier of counties in South carolina. A second species, Ari stida beyrichiana Trin. & Rupr., Occurs from southern South Carolina s outh throughout Florida and west to Mississippi.
