A 13-year-old boy demonstrated purpura rheumatica, glomerulonephritis,
acute bilateral ureteral stenosis and general thickening of the wall
of the small intestine by hemorrhagic-inflammatory imbibition of the d
ifferent corresponding wall layers. Symptoms of acute abdominal pain d
isappeared during therapy with prednisone i.v. (2 mg/kg) and symptomat
ic analgesia. No surgical intervention was necessary under close obser
vation, postrenal insufficiency did not develop. Early use of cortison
e is justified in this clinical syndrome.
