Abstract
This paper demonstrates that the Q method of determining spectral type s from UBV photometry is inaccurate for Be and Be shell stars. However , when a new spectral type versus Q-value relation was derived for the Be stars, it was found to provide equally precise spectral types as w hen the previous relations were applied to normal B stars.
