Neutron diffraction measurements have been made on liquid Cs-Pb alloys
at the Intense Pulsed Neutron Source. Equiatomic CsPb has been shown
in previous work to be a Zintl alloy with well-defined Cs4Pb4 structur
al units, explaining the anomalously high electrical resistivity and s
pecific heat observed in the molten state. These studies have been ext
ended to the Cs80Pb20 and Cs25Pb75 compositions and also repeated with
the equiatomic composition as a reference. The structure of liquid Cs
25Pb75 resembles that of solid KPb2. Liquid Cs80Pb20 exhibits large co
mposition fluctuations.
