The magnetic resonance signal of individual hydrogen nuclei has been d
etected. The experiments have been performed on a single pentacene mol
ecule with the aid of optically detected electron nuclear double reson
ance. Two nuclear magnetic resonance lines of 30 kHz width have been o
bserved as a 3% change in the fluorescence intensity of a single molec
ule. The results can be reproduced by a spin Hamilton operator describ
ing the interaction of a single electron spin with two hydrogen nuclei
.
