Op. Serdyuk et al., OCCURRENCE OF PLANT HORMONES IN CELLS OF THE PHOTOTROPHIC PURPLE BACTERIUM RHODOSPIRILLUM-RUBRUM-1R, FEMS microbiology letters, 109(1), 1993, pp. 113-116
Plant hormones from biomass of the purple non-sulfur bacterium Rhodosp
irillum rubrum were isolated for the first time. These compounds show
high physiological activities (300-330%) in the cytokinin bioassay. Al
l three detected cytokinins are adenine derivatives, according to spec
tral analysis. One of them was identified as trans-2-butenylamino)-9-b
eta-D-ribofuranosylpurine (zeatinriboside) as shown by thin-layer chro
matography and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography.
The possible functions of bacterial cytokinins are also discussed.
