Many psychiatrists and psychoanalysts consult the existing bibliograph
y to illustrate their ideas and hypothesis resulting from their clinic
al work. Also some of those who study this literature use the method a
nd knowledge provided by psychiatry and psychoanalysis for analyzing a
nd understanding the literary texts. Psychocritic constitutes nowadays
a complete trend of literary criticism.This article illustrates the m
anner in which Jean Starobinski, a psychiatrist who studied psychoanal
ysis and is a literary theoretician with a solid formation in the area
of humanities, studies the relation between psychiatry, psychoanalysi
s and literature. His ideas are an excellent example of integration of
the richness of the human aspect contained in literature and the theo
ry and practice of psychiatry and psychoanalysis.
