Ha. Saleh et al., CYTOLOGY OF MALIGNANT SCHWANNOMA METASTATIC TO THE LUNG - REPORT OF ACASE WITH DIAGNOSIS BY FINE-NEEDLE ASPIRATION BIOPSY, Acta cytologica, 37(3), 1993, pp. 409-412
The use of fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) to diagnose lung tumor
s has been very successful in regard to epithelial neoplasms. However,
there is much less experience in diagnosing primary and metastatic sa
rcomas of the lung with this technique. We describe an unusual case of
malignant schwannoma metastatic to the lung diagnosed by FNAB in a yo
ung female with von Recklinghausen's disease. The usefulness of this t
echnique and the additional aid of S-100 staining and electron microsc
opic studies are discussed.
