The flexural strength, fracture toughness (K(IC)), creep behaviour and
thermal shock of mullite-zirconia and mullite-zirconia-alumina compos
ites obtained by reaction-sintering of zircon+ alumina mixtures have b
een studied in the temperature interval ranging from room temperature
to 1400-degrees-C. The results are discussed in terms of the microstru
ctural features of the reaction-sintered composites.
