Airborne polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) were collected inside
a German city (Karlsruhe/Rhine valley) from January to April 1992 with
sampling times between one and three days. It was found to be possibl
e to collect both particle bounded and gaseous PAH compounds on a comb
ination of a glass-fibre filter and two tandem-arranged polyurethane-f
oams. HPLC was used for analysis in combination with a fluorescence de
tector which allows to detect PAH compounds in the ppb-range. The repr
oducibility of the complete sampling method was determined by parallel
measurements.
